You will find that dome-building structures are becoming more common in buildings, schools, churches, and even the homes of today. You will see many design structures in the current market however and most buildings are built to the specifications of the individual owner—so these design features still come down to a matter of taste.

Domes are typically created as if there were no opening though they do in fact have windows and doors in most cases, which are important in order to allow sunlight as well as people inside.

The designs for both dome windows and dome window coverings depend on the functionality and purpose of the structure more than anything else. If you follow the basic styles of architecture you will find that there are four styles in which dome structures are integrated into the design.

The augments are used as extensions of the airform or a perpendicular surface upon which to install windows and doors. Proper planning of the airfroms is required in order to achieve this. While this is certainly not the least costly of design features and options it is quite possible install dome windows and doors if you are willing to pay the price of doing so.

One little known benefit of the augmented architectural style is that it lends some degree of tornado resistance for those things, people, and items within the dome. In addition to this surprising benefit is the fact that this style of construction is uninviting to termites, fire, and rot.

Inset or Outset Cutouts

The inset cutouts are intended to suit the design on the inside of dome like structures and are laid into the dome itself. The Airform in this particular style of construction is patented onto the spot from which it will later be cut away for windows and doors. The distinct disadvantage to this style is the fact that it tends to seriously cut into the available floor space of the room.

The outset cutouts on the other hand allows for a structure to be placed on the outside where the door or window belongs. It is at this point where the installation occurs.

Cylinder Openings

These openings are often referred to as Gothic arches and are often used in entryways. These arches also make excellent connection points between the domes.

Skylight Openings

You will find that skylight architectural design allows light and ventilation from above rather than as window on the side of the room. With this particular type of installation you need to be certain that the installation is handled properly in order to avoid leaks and the problems that are often associated with uninvited water in the home.

Whichever architectural style you choose when building your dome styled building you will need creative ways in which to cover your windows. Some popular options for covering these often-unique windows are the following: Venetian blinds, paper shades, films, and curtains or drapes.

You should also be certain that the window coverings you choose will fit with your décor style as well as the budget you have established for this purpose. If you select the proper window coverings for your dome windows you will find that they make an even greater impact on the appearance of the room than the unique styling of the room, which says a lot.
